Self-sustained learning environment

Homeschooling is a learning option wherein the children get to learn and study in their house together with the hired teacher by their parents. The population of homeschoolers are not that big, but growing. Denise Peña, a homeschooling advocate who have actually decided to homeschool her children, mentioned that there are 12, 000 to 15, 000 homeschoolers in the Philippines.

Homeschool is not a bad thing just because you do not get to interact with different kinds of people. It is actually a good thing because you learn in an environment or place where you feel natural and comfortable.

Another good effect of this learning option is that children really strive when they were given more time. Time pressure is bad in some ways, like in a way that the children may get dismay by themselves because they know they couldn’t finish it on the given time. Unlike when you are given ample time in homeschooling, children strives to work hard and make their work even better.

If the issue with homeschooling is socialization or the children do not get to socialize, but socialization exist anytime there is an interaction. According to Peña, “Homeschoolers does not mean they’re isolated”.

With this learning option, it could be a way for the parents to extend their parenting with their child. When you homeschool, most of the time, your parents are by your side.

Homeschooling doesn’t mean that homeschoolers cannot do the activities a normal student do in subjects like Science (for experiments, etc.) MAPEH, because the parents are obligated to provide materials for this. They shouldn’t homeschool their child if they will not provide learning materials.
